System U3 is a new product introduced at the ICAAC in 1997. It is a unique ”Self Interpreting Reagent” strip for accurate assessment of the antibiotic susceptibility categories of urinary tract pathogens.

 

System U3 is based on the predefined gradient technology underlying Etest. The antibiotic gradient is designed such that MIC break points for Susceptible and Resistant categories are positioned on the strip to give the best discrimination between S, I and R results. The product can be used to test urine isolates or for direct testing of the urine specimen itself. Launch of System U3 is pending.
